A bit late to announce this (a lot of things came up), but I recently participated in an event called Happy Party 3X3! It’s a short film jam that’s hosted every year (...I think?), and most teams consist of a musician and a visualizer to make a cool thing!
Below is a link to the livestreamed event!
And here is a link to my team’s submission!
I was really lucky to get teamed up with Time Trials. He was great to work with and his music is amazing! I really tried to live up to it w the animation but damn was it hard. There’s so much I want to change, but with only one month to work on it there wasn’t much more I could do haha.
For this animation I wanted to try live action integration! I’ve noticed it’s become popular in indie music videos/animations lately, so I decided to hop on the band wagon too. It’s a cool aesthetic, and it cuts down on time needed to draw backgrounds. And I could still feel productive while going on walks because I was filming footage for my animation!
Luckily Davinci Resolve makes it pretty easy to track 2D animation to live action footage. All I had to do was set up the node tree and then copy and paste it over all of the shots. Maybe I will write out a tutorial for it someday… there’s so much cool stuff you can do with that software.
Anyways, this was my first time participating in Happy Party 3 and I hope to participate again next time it happens! That is, if my schedule allows… Now back to animating for the 4 OTHER projects that are going on in my life right now. Ugh. I’m tired.
